Chapter 14.  Customizing Dashboards

Creating Sub-dashboards

You will have noticed that the dashboard page provides a top navigation bar that allows you to select other dashboards. These dashboards are sub-dashboards of the Home dashboard. The out-of-the-box dashboardsCategories, Search, Document Library, Subscriptions, and Managementare implemented as sub-dashboards of the Home dashboard. If you take a look under the covers you will notice that they are subfolders of the Portal folder.

Most commonly, you will create a sub-dashboard of the Home dashboard, such that another tab will be added to the top navigation bar. The sub-dashboard appears as a peer of the Home dashboard. If you create a sub-dashboard of any other dashboard, you will see the true hierarchy, showing the new dashboard on a child navigation bar of their parent dashboard. To create a new sub-dashboard, do the following:

  1. Log in as Workspace Coordinator and open the dashboard that you want to customize in your browser.

  2. Click the Content link at the top of the dashboard page to open the Contents page.

  3. Under Import or Create, click Create a subdashboard.

  4. The Settings page for a New Dashboard opens.

  5. Change the name from "New Dashboard" such that it reflects the purpose of the dashboard. Other settings, such as logo or color scheme, can be set as well. This has been discussed earlier in this chapter.

  6. Click Save to leave the Settings page, and you will be presented with a new, empty dashboard

  7. To navigate to the parent dashboard, click the folder icon link in the child navigation bar.
