Converting Data Access Pages from Access 2000 or 2002 to 2003

DAP are an exception to the transparency between Access 2000 and 2002 file formats, and application object compatibility between Access 2002 and 2003. DAP store page design in .htm files, not in .mdb or .adp files; .mdb and .adp files store only links to the .htm files. When you open a page created by Access 2000 or 2002 in Page Design view, you receive the first message shown in Figure 32.7. After you convert the .htm file to Access 2003 format, the second message appears to advise you that upgrading created a backup file.

Access 2003 automatically creates a backup of the page named FileName.bak.htm and updates the FileName.htm file from version 9.0 (Access 2000) or 10.0 (Access 2002) to 11.0. Users must have Office 2003 and Office Web Components (OWC) 11.0 to view and update data in the upgraded DAP. If your DAP must support Office 2000 or XP users, create a new virtual directory on your Web server to hold the Office 2003 versions, move the upgraded files to the new virtual directory, and rename the backup copies from FileName.bak.htm to FileName.htm in the original virtual directory.
