Chapter 15 - Using Add-Ins to Expand Access Functionality

3 4

Access includes a number of built-in add-in utilities that help you with unfamiliar or complex procedures. Access also lets you extend its capabilities by means of Component Object Model (COM) add-ins and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) add-ins created by third-party developers. (See Chapter 21, "Creating Your Own Add-Ins," for more information about COM add-ins.) Whether you’re creating database tables, queries, forms, or reports or publishing data access pages, these add-ins can help you extend the functionality of Access and the data management systems you create. This chapter explains what each add-in can do for you. At the end of this chapter, you’ll also find a details on working with the Access Database Wizard to create a database based on a template. Although you won’t find the Database Wizard on the Tools, Analyze, or Tools, Database Utilities menus, it is an add-in that helps you create a new database from a template, with tables already filled in with standard fields; you can use the wizard to quickly create a variety of sample databases to use to experiment with some of the add-ins included on the companion CD.
