This appendix is not designed as a complete reference on the Registry. Most people know just enough about the Registry to be dangerous myself included. I'm familiar enough with Outlook's Registry keys to change them whenever I need to do so. However, when it comes to other programs and other Registry values, caution is a critical practice.

If you want to learn more about the Windows Registry, there are several good books and Web sites you can use for more information. I recommend the following books on the Windows Registry:

  • Managing Windows 2000 Registry. Paul Robichaux, Robert Denn. O'Riley and Associates, ISBN: 1565929438

Remember, when. dealing with the Registry, it's better to be safe than sorry. If you're not sure that you're editing the right key, stop, search, and back up before you continue.
