International Information

Office 2003 is available in multiple languages, but a few differences exist between the different localized installations. The Office Resource Kit contains four Microsoft Excel files designed to help you understand the differences between the different versions so that you can adequately support your users. All the following files can be found at C:\Program Files\ORKTOOLS\ORK11\Lists and Samples\International Information. The four included files are

  • INTLMIT.xls This file lists the component limitations and NUI (Network User Identification) differences between versions. For example, a localized version of Microsoft Access is available, but the Northwind database used for many samples in Access 2003 is not localized. In Outlook, this file informs you that when running in Unicode mode (either a Unicode Personal Folders file or Exchange 2000 or higher), message data will appear in the same language as the installed Office product. Even message headers will appear in the installed language.

  • WWFEATRE.xls This file lists features that are localized for different language installations. For example, in Outlook, there is a list of localized templates in the New Folder dialog box. The default spelling dictionary is also localized. Toolbars have right or left paragraph buttons depending on the installed localization settings.

  • WWSUPPT.xls This file lists support, by language of operating system, of different language features of Office applications.

  • MULTILPK.xls This file provides information about sharing localized Microsoft Word documents across languages and versions of Word and Office. For each localized version of Office, the file tells you whether the file can be opened directly or opened and converted. Information is included for versions of Office back to Office 95.
