Where's My BCM?

When I launch Outlook, Business Contact Manager doesn't load. There is no Business Tools menu on the menu bar, and I don't see it in Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options, COM add-ins. How can I fix that?

Business Contact Manager will occasionally fail to load properly, particularly if Outlook crashes for any other reason. When that happens, take the following steps:

  1. Close Microsoft Outlook.

  2. Display the Task Manager using Ctrl+Alt+Del and make sure that the Outlook.exe process has terminated. If the process is still running, terminate it and reboot your computer.

  3. Restart Outlook.

If Business Contact Manager still fails to load, you can reset its load behavior in the Registry:

  1. Click Start, Run and type regedit.

  2. Click Open.

  3. Navigate to the following key:

     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\ Microsoft.BusinessSolutions.eCRM.OutlookAddIn.Connect.1. 
  4. Double-click the LoadBehavior DWORD value in the right pane of the Registry Editor. Change the value to 3.

  5. Close the Registry and restart Outlook.

Accessing History Items

I'm trying to open an email that's linked to a contact and appears in the contact's History field. However, when I try to double-click the item, Outlook opens an item that looks like a journal entry with some weird addressing information. Where's my email message and what happened to it?

When you link an Outlook item or a file to a Business Contact Manager item, you're only creating a link to the item you aren't attaching the actual item. When a linked item is deleted, a journal entry is created with some of the information from that item. In the case of a file, you'll receive an error if the file has been moved, renamed, or deleted. In the case of an email, you'll see a journal entry with the destination email address.
