Cannot Resolve Name

I'm attempting to set up my Exchange email account. When I enter my server name and my mailbox name and click the Check Names button, Outlook tells me that "The action could not be completed. The name could not be matched to a name in the address list." Why doesn't Outlook recognize my name?

The short answer to this question is that you must check with your Exchange administrator. When the administrator originally created your account in Active Directory, she created a mailbox name and an alias. Either of those values can be used to resolve your name when setting up your Exchange account. However, if you're using a different name when attempting the setup, the name resolution will fail. For example, if your name is John David Carmels, but you typically are known as Dave, your Exchange administrator might have configured your account as Dave Carmels, David Carmels, or John Carmels. Check with your Exchange administrator on the exact setup of your mailbox.

Internet Recipients Can't Vote

I'm trying to send a message with voting buttons to a group of six people. Four of these recipients are users on my Exchange Server, and two of the recipients are Internet recipients. My Internet recipients aren't receiving the voting buttons. Can I fix this?

To send voting buttons to a recipient over the Internet (not on the same Exchange server), the following conditions must be met:

  • The Internet recipient must be using Outlook.

  • Your message is sent with rich text formatting.

To change your message format, select Tools, Options and click the Mail Format tab. Choose Rich Text format as your default message format and compose your message. When you're done, you can change your default message format back to HTML.

You can actually change your message format directly within the message, but it requires several extra steps. Open a new message and select Format, Plain Text. Outlook warns you that all your formatting will be lost. Then select Format, Rich Text. You cannot switch directly from HTML to rich text format.
