Restoring Missing Address BooksI have one Contacts folder in Outlook, but when I press the To button on a form, no folders are listed in my Outlook Address Book. First, make sure that you have the Contacts folder enabled as an email address book. Right-click on the Contacts folder, choose Properties, and then click the Outlook Address Book tab. The box that enables the Contacts folder as an email address book should be checked.
Phantom Address BooksI have just one Contacts folder in my message store. But when I press the To button on a message form, I have two Contacts folders listed as address books and one returns an error when I select it. What's wrong and how do I fix it? It sounds like you moved or removed a message store that had Contacts enabled as an Outlook Address Book and the address book entry wasn't removed. Open the address book using the toolbar button or the Tools, Address Book menu sequence. Open the address book's Tools, Options menu and remove all the Contacts folders. Click the Add button and select the Contacts folder from the Add Address List dialog box to add it back. Cleaning Up AutoCompleteWhen I type addresses in the To field, a list of addresses displays. Some of these addresses contain typos, and others are addresses I don't want or need any more. What can I do to clean them up? There are two ways to clean up your AutoComplete list: by deleting individual entries and by deleting the file that contains the list. After you type a partial name and the list displays, use the arrow keys to move up and down the list to highlight the entry that contains an error. Press the Delete key and the entry is deleted from the list. If your AutoComplete list has many errors, you can delete the *.NK2 file from your hard drive. Close Outlook and delete C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\profile_name.NK2. When you reopen Outlook, a new NK2 file is created. Each time you send a message, the addresses to which you're sending are added to the NK2 file. TIP If you can't find the NK2 file, select Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View tab and check Show Hidden Files and Folders. If you use Windows Search to find the file for you, select More Advanced Options and include Search Hidden Files and Folders. |
