The Power of Attitude

Over the past 20 years, I have considered myself extremely lucky. I have been able to work with all types of successful people, ranging from sports, business, the arts, science and medicine, education, and entertainment. I believe that we become what we think about, and who we surround ourselves with every day strongly influences what we think about. That's why it's so important to be very choosy about who we do spend our time with, this short time we have here on Earth. All the people I've met, whether they are clients, mentors, guests, or colleagues, have one thing in common. In one way or another, each of them has a strong, positive, and resilient attitude.

These are people—ordinary people—who have harnessed the incredible power of a positive mental attitude to help them achieve extraordinary success. All of these people believe in one important concept: You become what you think about. All top achievers believe in their ability to succeed, and they are committed to doing and being their best at all times. They possess a quiet confidence and a comfort within themselves that makes you want to be around them. They are not only successful themselves, they elevate your success as well.

It's not just my opinion that attitude is essential for success. A study conducted by Harvard Business School determined that four factors are critical for success in business: information, intelligence, skill, and attitude. When these factors were ranked in importance, this particular study found that information, intelligence, and skill combined amounted to seven percent of business success, and attitude amounted to 93 percent! What is true for business is also true for our lives—our attitude is overwhelmingly the most important factor to our success.

There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.
