Summary

In this chapter, we've learned about transactional ASP Web pages and we've seen how an ASP Web page can be declared as transactional by using the @TRANSACTION directive at the top of the page. We've also covered several topics surrounding Microsoft Transaction Server, including transactions, packages, components, roles, interfaces, and methods. These are important topics that will help you in building n-tier, transactional applications. We've learned about the ObjectContext object and how it can be used from within ASP code to explicitly commit or abort a transaction. We've also seen how event handlers can be used in ASP code to automatically trap commits or aborts. Finally, we took another look at transactional ASP Web pages, this time using ADO and performing database operations against a SQL Server database. This chapter has set the groundwork for the next chapter, "Creating Transactional Components with Visual Basic 6.0" in which we'll be extending transactions from ASP Web pages into MTS components.
