Chapter Summary

only for RuBoard

ADO.NET certainly has brought many changes with it. Sadly, there is only so much room in a book to cover such a broad subject. We have tried to cover the most important concepts, focusing on ASP.NET development and ADO.NET's XML capabilities.

As you have seen, ADO.NET adds much in the way of XML support. You can use XML Schemas to define the structure of a DataSet , validate its contents, and validate data that is added or changed.

The DataSet class provides great flexibility compared to the ADODB.Recordset class that we have all grown to love so much. The DataSet can also work with an XmlDataDocument to provide extremely flexible solutions.

This chapter focused on ADO.NET and accessing databases. Chapter 9 focuses on what XML support SQL Server provides natively and how you can merge ADO.NET and SQL Server's XML support together to develop robust custom solutions.
