The following sections provide a summary of the software and other materials you'll find on the CD.

Author-created materials

All author-created material from the book, including code listings, and exercise files, are on the CD in folder names that match the corresponding chapter number. The Bonus Tutorial folder has additional Fireworks and Flash projects files to enhance your learning. The Movies folder has movies for FreeHand and Fireworks to help you master some of the more complex tasks.

The following applications are on the CD:

Acrobat Reader 5.0

A Freeware version of the Acrobat reader is included to view PDF files with.

Eye Candy 4000, from Alien Skin Software

A demo version of Eye Candy 4000 ROM for PC and Mac platforms is in the Alien Skin folder on the CD-ROM. In this demo version of Eye Candy, all of the filters are fully functional for 30 days from installation. After 30 days, Eye Candy previews only the filters' effects.

Eye Candy 4000 is a collection of 23 time-saving filters. The filters combine effects such as shadows, bevels, and glows with stunning effects such as chrome, fire, smoke, and wood.

Flix (Pro and Lite) 2.5, from Wildform inc.

A demo version of Flix 2.5 for PC and Mac platforms is in the Wildform folder on the CD-ROM. These are fully functioning demos of Wildform Flix. However, the output video contains a "Wildform" watermark, and the audio output contains a "Flix demo" audio mark.

Pro: Flash video encoding and design tool helps you easily create professional caliber video. Edit, crop, encode, and post your video in your own custom branded player in minutes.

Lite: Put your video on the Web in three clicks with Flix Lite! Flix Lite encodes virtually every type of video, audio, and image file into Flash.net.

Image Doctor, by Alien Skin Software

A demo version of Image Doctor for PC and Mac platforms is in the Alien Skin folder on the CD-ROM. In this demo version of Image Doctor, all the filters will be fully functional for 30 days from installation. After 30 days, Image Doctor previews only filters' effects.

Image Doctor has image-correction filters for performing tasks such as removing blemishes, repairing over-compressed JPEGs, and replacing unwanted details and objects. It's compatible with Photoshop, Fireworks, and paint Shop Pro as well as other editors.

Splat! 1.0, by Alien Skin Software

A demo version of Splat! 1.0 for PC and Mac platforms is in the Alien Skin folder on the CD-ROM. In this demo version of Image Doctor, all the filters will be fully functional for 30 days from installation.

Splat! contains a set of filters that combines frames, textures, edges, borders, mosaics, and more.

Toon Boom Studio, by Toon Boom Technologies Inc.

An evaluation of Toon Boon Studio in PC and Mac platforms is in the Toon Boom folder included on the CD-ROM.

Toon Boom Studio revolutionizes animation production for the Web. Just a few of the things you can do are: automatically map mouth drawings to the lip chart, use sound scrubbing to synchronize sound to the image precisely, and lay out elements visually in the 3-D scene space. Toon Boom Studio automatically interpolates size changes for the content of each layer.

TopStyle Pro 3.0, by Bradbury Software LLC

A trial version of TopStyle Pro 3.0 for Windows is in the TopStyle folder included on the CD-ROM.

TopStyle is a stand-alone CSS editor or works in conjunction with editors such as Dreamweaver. You can edit your HTML, XHTML, and CSS, check your CSS syntax against multiple browsers, upgrade outdated HTML, including font tags to CSS, convert HTML to XHTML with TopStyle's HTML integration. Plus, you can find CSS class usage throughout your site. You can also see a side-by-side preview using Interenet Explorer and Netscape Gecko.

Shareware programs are fully functional, trial versions of copyrighted programs. If you like particular programs, register with their authors for a nominal fee, and receive licenses, enhanced versions, and technical support. Freeware programs are copyrighted games, applications, and utilities that are free for personal use. Unlike shareware, these programs do not require a fee or provide technical support. GNU software is governed by its own license, which is included inside the folder of the GNU product. See the GNU license for more details.

Trial, demo, or evaluation versions are usually limited either by time or functionality (such as being unable to save projects). Some trial versions are sensitive to system date changes. If you alter your computer's date, the programs will time out and no longer be functional.
