ColdFusion enables you to add dynamic content to your Web pages and Flash MX movies. In this case, "dynamic" isn't a measure of quality, but rather denotes that some or all of a page's content may be inserted into the page at the time a user's browser requests it.
Note | The opposite of dynamic content is static content: plain HTML pages or Flash movies in which images, text, and so on are fixed and can't be changed without editing the files. |
Consider a basic shopping-cart application. As you move through the store selecting products, the contents of your cart change with each item you select for purchase. Obviously, there's no designer sitting at the store's headquarters frantically creating new HTML pages or Flash movies each time you select a product; the store application is generating dynamic content behind the scenes.
One of the reasons ColdFusion is an ideal tool for producing dynamic content is that it enables developers to quickly and easily connect their Web pages to databases. As the contents of your databases change, so do your Web pages — in real time and without any additional design on your part.
