Chapter 3: Developing the Habitat Alert Web Site

 < Day Day Up >

Overview

The author team of Macromedia Studio MX Bible decided to take an approach a bit different from other books. They decided to do a real site for a nonprofit organization. They wanted to teach how to work in a real work environment by having you work in one. The authors encountered obstacles and problems that you won't get to experience, such as saving in multiple folders instead of just one root folder because of the non-linear fashion of the book. But then they did encounter things that all designers/developers will encounter — client changes. For example, the name of the domain was changed two times. This wasn't a problem because the authors had a good working relationship with the hosting server, but it did make the writing process a challenge.

This book shows you how easy it is to maintain a site using Dreamweaver and how easy even a name change can be when you've set up your site with site management in mind from the beginning. A well-planned site saves you from numerous headaches and problems down the line.
