Flash is compatible with many of the popular image file formats. Table 24-2 shows some of the files you can easily import. Chapter 25 discusses how to directly import assets into your movies Library.

Adobe Illustrator | .ai, .eps | These files import as vector graphics unless they contain bitmap images. |
Bitmap images | .bmp, .jpg, .gif, .pct, .pict, .tiff | These are flattened images without layer or transparency information. |
PNG | .png | This format supports alpha channels. Png files imported from Fireworks into Flash maintains layers, vectors, and transparency. |
PSD | .psd | These are Photoshop native files. Effects that are not compatible will not import properly, but you can choose to maintain layers and editability. |
QuickTime Movie | .mov | This is a video format by Apple computers. |
FreeHand | .fh7, .fh8, .fh9, .fh10, .fh11 | This is a vector-based format that maintains editability and many effects in Flash. |
Toon Boom Studio | .tbp | These vector files preserve layers, scenes, sound, and more. There is a trial version on the CD-ROM. |
