Importing Files into Flash

Flash is compatible with many of the popular image file formats. Table 24-2 shows some of the files you can easily import. Chapter 25 discusses how to directly import assets into your movies Library.

Table 24-2: Image Formats for Flash Import

File Type	Extension	Description
Adobe Illustrator	.ai, .eps	These files import as vector graphics unless they contain bitmap images.
Bitmap images	.bmp, .jpg, .gif, .pct, .pict, .tiff	These are flattened images without layer or transparency information.
PNG	.png	This format supports alpha channels. Png files imported from Fireworks into Flash maintains layers, vectors, and transparency.
PSD	.psd	These are Photoshop native files. Effects that are not compatible will not import properly, but you can choose to maintain layers and editability.
QuickTime Movie	.mov	This is a video format by Apple computers.
FreeHand	.fh7, .fh8, .fh9, .fh10, .fh11	This is a vector-based format that maintains editability and many effects in Flash.
Toon Boom Studio	.tbp	These vector files preserve layers, scenes, sound, and more. There is a trial version on the CD-ROM.
