The Property inspector is new to Flash MX and is similar in function to the one found in Dreamweaver. As you select a tool or object on the Stage (the large white area that you work in), the Property inspector changes to reflect that item's properties. You can leave it docked at the bottom (or floating in Mac) or close it and access it as needed by choosing Window ® Properties. Although it's used so frequently you'll probably want to click the Expander arrow to close it when it's not in use.
The Property inspector replaces nine panels: Stroke, Fill, Character, Paragraph, Text Options, Instance, Effect, Frame, and Sound. That's a lot of panels you no longer have to shuffle. Figure 24-2 shows the Property inspector with the Pen tool selected.

Tip | The expander opens and closes a panel, but you can actually click anywhere on the gray bar to open and close a panel. |
