There are several options for altering the edges of your selection. From the Select menu, you can choose to feather the edges, contract, expand, smooth them, or add a border. In each case, you enter the value in pixels that you want to affect in the dialog box that opens with each selection.
An option you may use frequently is Select Inverse. For example, if you have a colorful background you want to eliminate, but the object to remain has a lot of similar colors, it may be easier to select the object (Figure 19-3) and then choose Select ® Inverse. This selects the area around the original selection. You can then delete the background area or blur it out of focus (Figure 19-4).
