The selection tools are the real power behind working with bitmap images. Selections enable you to edit particular areas of an image. The selections tools include the Marquee, Oval, Lasso, Polygon, and the Magic Wand tools. These tools are available only when you are editing bitmap images. Selections are made to isolate problem areas or to select a specific portion of an image. If you are editing, only what is contained inside of the selection is affected. A selection also enables you to copy or cut only what is contained in a selection. You can apply effects and filters to specific selections. By defining a selection, you protect the rest of the image from change.
Note | If you've made a complex selection or any selection that you may want to use again in your image, you can save it (as you'll see later in this section). You can also make a selection in one layer and then copy and paste the selection into another layer. |
