Lab 5.1: Identifying Network Topologies, Cables, and Connectors
Lab 5.2: Understanding Network Configurations
A network connects two or more computers together to share information or resources. A LAN (local area network) connects computers in the same office, whereas a WAN (wide area network) connects computers that are great distances apart. A LAN may be connected to a WAN such as the Internet. In peer-to-peer networks, all computers act as both servers and workstations; server- based networks have one computer that provides centralized control. Server-based networks offer more security but require a network manager.
In this chapter we will explore PC networks by examining existing network topologies and their cables, and identifying network configurations and settings.
