The National Operations Security Program (OPSEC) was established in 1988 as a means to identify, control, and protect unclassified information and evidence associated with U.S. national-security programs and activities. The IOSS unit consults with other U.S. government departments and agencies, providing technical guidance and assistance to make OPSEC programs throughout government self-sufficient and to protect U.S. operations. IOSS staff is available to assist organizations and individuals with OPSEC materials, training, operations analysis, and implementation of OPSEC practices.
