Chapter 1. XML and Security


The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is rapidly gaining ground in application-level network communications. As it becomes used for a wider range of purposes, the need to authenticate and maintain the confidentiality of XML grows ever stronger.

Chapter 1 provides a brief overview of XML, the security needs of XML, the current status of XML Security standardization, and ongoing work in XML Security.
