Lesson 2. Managing Your I/O Setup
In a studio environment built around Logic, the audio interface is the hub for all audio input and output (I/O) signals moving through the computer. Unless you are using a simple mobile audio interface with a single pair of ins and outs, most studio configurations will have from 8 to 128 inputs and outputs to manage. Therefore, keeping track of signal flow is vital, whether you work with a static setup where devices (such as microphone preamps, effects processors, and amplifiers) are always plugged into the same I/O of the interface, or a variable studio environment with patch bays and revolving session equipment. In this lesson, you'll be adding to the template you created in the last chapter, further refining the input/output setup for accessibility and routing options. NOTE This lesson is geared toward setups with audio interfaces having eight or more inputs and outputs. Owners of smaller systems (like ones built around a PowerBook) will notice some discrepancies between what they are seeing onscreen and the screen shots in the lesson. They should still follow along, as this information still pertains to their setups. |
