Saving a Song Template

You spent quite a bit of time customizing this song. Now you'll need to save it as a template because you will be using this template in several upcoming lessons.

1.

Select File > Save as Template.

The "Save document as" window opens, automatically pointing to a save location in the Song Templates folder that was created when you initially installed Logic Pro 7.

2.

Type the filename: Advanced Logic Template.

3.

Click the Save button.

The template is now saved to your hard drive.

Creating an Autoload Template

Having a selection of templates at your fingertips can be useful in any given situation. However, most of the time you'll want to start your sessions with the same basic configuration. You can do this by naming a song template Autoload and saving it to the Song Templates location in the same way you saved the song template in the previous exercise. You can have this Autoload template loaded automatically when Logic is launched, or opened by default when you start a new song.

When Logic loads, it scans the Song Templates folder looking for an Autoload song. If Logic finds one, it loads on launching, instead of a default song.

When using the File > New command to create a new song, having "Use song template" unchecked in the New dialog will cause the Autoload song to load automatically.
