12.8 Summary

This chapter introduced the DeltaV features used in managing versioning when multiple files with interdependencies are involved.

Workspaces allow multiple developers to independently change multiple files in different areas of the repository. Activities and merges are used to coordinate between developers and synchronize between workspaces. An activity can encompass a number of changed files that are checked in together atomically, or an activity can identify a number of versions in branches of multiple files that belong in the same line of work. Either way, an activity is conceptually what a developer is working on.

Configurations and version-controlled collections allow the histories of multiple files to be correlated. A configuration does this by acting as a versionable resource representing a repository or a project. Each time the configuration is revised, a new baseline is created to represent the project at that point in time. A version-controlled collection is a collection whose membership is under version control.

DeltaV offers packages of recommended features. Servers can support one of these packages in order to offer a useful combination of functionality:

  • Core Versioning package

  • Client Workspace package

  • Server Workspace package

  • Advanced Client Workspace package

  • Advanced Server Workspace package
