What Is SVG?

Who Created SVG?

The SVG specification is the result of a collaborative effort on the part of several major companies, including Adobe®, Hewlett-Packard, IBM®, Microsoft®, Netscape™, SUN Microsystems, and Microsoft Visio®. The SVG specification is vast and comprehensive; it provides functionality for using JavaScript/ECMAScript, producing animation effects, and creating very complex visual patterns. This book contains thousands of SVG samples that illustrate how to use many of the features that are available in the W3C Recommendation of September 04, 2001. If you're interested, you can find the specification at http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/REC-SVG-20010904. Currently, there is also an SVG 1.1 specification, which is available as the 'W3C Proposed Recommendation (November 15, 2002).' For more information about the SVG 1.1 specification visit http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/PR-SVG11-20021115. Finally, there is a so-called working draft of SVG 1.2, which is available as the 'W3C Working Draft 15 November 2002.' Note that this is a public working draft of the SVG 1.2 specification, and hence is subject to change. You can find the SVG 1.2 specification at the following URL: http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-SVG12-20021115.
