Currently there are numerous SVG viewers available in the marketplace. Some are free, and others will give you a trial evaluation. You can find the official W3C list of implementations of SVG at the following URL: http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/SVGImplementations.htm8. For those of you who are interested, the Adobe SVG viewer is listed on this URL, along with release notes for Windows® and for Macintosh®. In terms of functionality and best overall implementation of the SVG specification, the Adobe SVG viewer is recommended, especially if you have a Macintosh. Note that the SVG documents with code containing ECMAScript use Adobe-specific extensions, which means that you need the Adobe SVG viewer for those SVG documents. Regardless of the SVG viewer that you use, please make sure that you read the associated release notes for that viewer to familiarize yourself with any platform-specific issues.
Here's a list of the steps you need to follow in order to download and install the Adobe SVG viewer:
Step 1: Launch your browser and go to http://www.adobe.com/svg/viewer/install
Step 2: Select the platform that applies to you (Windows, Mac, or Solaris) in your language
Step 3: click on the hyperlink and save the viewer on your hard disk
Step 4: run the file that you saved in Step 3
For example, if you selected the combination of 'English' and the link 'Win 98-XP' under the heading 'Operating System,' the downloaded file is called SVGView.exe. You can run this file by typing its name on the command line or by double-clicking on the file in Internet Explorer. Select the default values for the prompts and within a minute or so you'll be done. Congratulations-you're now ready to start exploring the world of SVG!
