Some of the SVG documents are based on some well-known polar equations. The graphics images that are rendered are variations of those equations combined with other geometric objects. For example, there are numerous graphics images on the CD-ROM that are based on polar equations that represent curves such as the Spiral of Archimedes, Cardioids, and Conchoids. The interesting part happens when the polar equations are combined with ellipses, polygons, and various types of gradient shading. You'll probably notice that the equations have been 'tweaked' in a variety of ways; this was done for the purpose of generating pleasing graphics images. I hope you have as much fun learning SVG as I did while writing this book!
