Headphones

Sometimes, you want your PSP experience to be somewhat private. Other times, you just don't want to disturb everyone around you. Love the PSP headset or hate it, there are better options. Here are a couple.

Icemat Siberia In:Ear Headset

Talk about bass! If you like thumpin' low notes, check out the Siberia In:Ear Headset (Figure A.1) from Icemat. The first time I listened to music with these headphones plugged into the PSP remote, I expected to feel the bass line in my chest.

Figure A.1. If you don't like one set of earpieces, use another set!

The high-performance drivers are paired with soft, remarkably comfortable rubber buds that stay firmly in place. The headphones cancel out any background noise, so try not to get hit by a bus while you're grooving to tunes on your PSP. The kit comes with several sets of earpieces, so if you don't like the feel of one set, you can replace it with a different pair.

Logitech PlayGear Mod Headphones

Some people don't like sticking stuff in their ears. If you're one of them, you probably prefer traditional headphones that wrap around your head, with earpieces that don't invade your anvils and stirrups. The perfectly tensioned PlayGear Mod headphones (Figure A.2) from Logitech won't slip, and its behind-the-head form factor won't mess up your hair, either.

Figure A.2. This sleek design is sure to make horseshoes jealous.

Long known for its mice and game controllers, Logitech has, in the past few years, been making itself known for its audio systems. Its Z-series PC speakers are among the very finest, and now its PSP headsets rank up there with offerings from companies that have been making speakers for a hundred years. The pads on the headphones are terrifically comfortable, and the device includes removable nonslip rubber thingies that fit over the tops of your ears.

I wouldn't suggest that you take your PSP jogging, but if you were to do it, the PlayGear Mod would be the outside-the-ear headset to do it with. The snug fit and superb sound don't quite cancel out other noises, but they squelch the rest of the world enough for you to forget about it.
