Acknowledgments

Martin Duggan: This is my first book for Cisco Press, and it has been an absolute honor to complete this project. I express gratitude to the whole team at Cisco Press for taking this idea from conception to completion so professionally. It has been very hard to keep to the deadlines working on this project in the evenings and weekends. If those who know me see a few more grey hairs, this book is the reason why.

I would like to thank Brett Bartow for keeping us on track and structuring the book so well. I am also very grateful to Christopher Cleveland for the effort he has put into this project; in fact, his name should be up there with mine and Maurilio's on the front cover. The sheer professionalism of everybody I have dealt with in Cisco Press has amazed me. I hope they stay in publishing and do not enter the networking profession as there will be no work for the likes of Maurilio and me.

To the technical reviewers, William Parkhurst, Elaine Bonotto Lopes, and Leah Lynch, you have shaped this book, and we are indebted to your hard work and commitment to detail. We were extremely fortunate to have you as part of the team, and your expertise in this subject is second to none.

I would like to thank my coauthor and friend Maurilio; he has been an absolute joy to work with. His knowledge and experience have really made this book. Maurilio was always happy to help out with any problem I encountered, and I am envious of his ability to write this book in his second language. Cisco is lucky to have him.

To all the guys from my previous role in IBM working on the ntl accountMartin Harper, Steve Goddard, Hanik Kang, George Smith, Graham Hemmings, Dean Hassan, and Steve Gowersyou guys helped me more than you realize and you made work fun.

Most of all I want to thank my family for their loving support. I could not have completed this project or my CCIE without your help.

Maurilio Gorito: Thank God for guiding me throughout my life and giving me through Jesus the strength to overcome all my challenges.

Working with Cisco Press has been a wonderful and pleasant experience. They are an extraordinary and talented group of people who made this book possible. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you. A special thanks to Brett Bartow, the executive editor, for his guidance and for always being available to answer all my questions. Many thanks to Chris Cleveland, the development editor, whose great job and extreme competence helped to polish our work and added great value to this book.

To the technical reviewers, William Parkhurst, Elaine Bonotto Lopes, and Leah Lynchthank you for the deep and great feedback that made the book richer. It was a pleasure to have this team of experts working with us. Thank you for your dedication, hard work, and commitment.

It is difficult to find words to express all the gratitude to have worked with Martin. We started this project as coauthors, then we built a task force, and finally we became good friends. Along with the Cisco Press team we had a real valuable teamwork experience. Martin's knowledge and experience added quality to our project, and all the discussions we had were to improve the quality of the book. Being always available and kind, and keeping things on track, I can just say I am grateful to have worked with Martin. Thank you my friend.

Thank you to all the CCIE team. It has been a pleasure to work with such extremely qualified people from whom I am still learning. Thank you all for the support, help, and the opportunities you gave me. A special thanks to my colleagues and friends Tom Eggers and Ben Ng, who everyday at the CCIE Lab in San Jose, California, allow me to explain my thoughts, share their knowledge, and even listen to my jokes.

It has been a long time since I started in networking and I have made a lot of good friends that will be impossible to list here, but each one of you knows how important you are in my life. A special thank you to all of you.

To my family, who without their support and understanding I would not have been able to complete this book.
