Chapter 5. Practice Lab 5

You will now be starting Practice Lab 5. We will be adding IS-IS routing protocol for this lab, and then you will find some interesting behaviors and situations involving IS-IS configuration itself and redistribution aspects between routing protocols. We will be practicing other features and methods to configure, you will also notice small changes on addressing more specifically on network masks. You might think you are going through the same tasks you tackled before, but the more you practice the more you become familiar with the equipment and commands that will make you comfortable to perform the tasks during the CCIE Lab Exam as well in your professional duties. The main objective still remains the same: to ensure you practice on a variety of subjects and scenarios that covers the potential CCIE Lab Exam content. As before, if your equipment does not exactly match that used to produce the lab it does not matter, as long as you have the required interfaces. Having the exact equipment, however, will aid you in pasting in configuration files.

Quite often the questions will be straightforward, so try to keep your solutions simple and avoid complicating the matter and yourself. Sometimes, you will need to pay attention to the wording and although the question looks like quite simple, it could involve a "hidden" concept knowledge regarding a specific area or section in the exercise. Keep in mind that the main objective of these lab exercises is to give you challenges that will drive you through the areas you must explore to be well prepared to take the CCIE Lab Exam with success, and, therefore, be thoroughly prepared to better apply your skills in the real world.

As in the previous labs you will find to assist you; the routers and switches initial configurations, Frame Relay switch configuration and now backbone router configurations. Solutions for the entire lab including configurations and common show command outputs from all the devices in the topology can be found on the accompanying CD. An "Ask the Proctor" section is included at the end of the lab which will give you clues if required followed by the lab debrief, which will analyze each question showing you what was required and how to achieve the desired results. Finally, you will find handy references should you require additional study information.

You will now be guided through the equipment requirements and pre-lab tasks in preparation for taking Practice Lab 5.
