Section 1.2: 3550 LAN Switch Configuration

Q: Can I configure logging to a server to save the information permanently?

A: You are requested to log the information locally on the switch.

Q: So is logging buffered sufficient?

A: You might find that using this feature will result in the information being lost after a reset or power failure to the switch.

Q: Can I save the log information in flash?

A: Yes.

Q: Can I configure an access list to block Telnet as I would within a router?

A: No, your switch is not running IP routing.

Q: Do you want me to rate limit my multicast?

A: You do not have sufficient information to perform rate limiting and would have to block the entire multicast address range; a simple solution is available to you.

Q: Can I use R1 or R6 as my default gateway?

A: Yes, use whichever you choose but ensure full visibility from your network.
