Chapter 14: Using DECnet

Overview

DECnet is a suite of peer-to-peer networking software developed by Digital Equipment Corporation to work with several of its operating systems in addition to OpenVMS.

Your OpenVMS system may or may not be running DECnet or other networking products (e.g., TCP/IP). Use the SHOW NETWORK command to determine which networking products your system is running.

Note

Some third-party networking products are reported by the SHOW NETWORK command, others are not.

Your system manager will provide you with the names of any other systems on your DECnet network that you are authorized to use. Node name formats may differ somewhat depending on the version of DECnet software in use at your site. Your site may be running DECnet Phase IV, DECnet Phase V (a.k.a. DECnet OSI or DECnet-Plus), or both. The node-naming and addressing rules are explained here for completeness. You will be instructed as to the names in use on your network.
