Chapter 13. Adding a Navigation Bar

Creating the Buttons
Building a Two-State Nav Bar
Building a Four-State Nav Bar
Adding a Background Color to the Nav Area
Placing Custom Messages in the Status Bar

Building a navigation bar happens in two distinct phases. First, you create the button graphics in your image editor of choice. Second, you add the buttons to your template document and link them to the pages of your site. As you work, Dreamweaver handles all the necessary HTML code and writes the JavaScript for your rollover effects. This chapter takes you through the entire process.

But first, a program note: this chapter deals with graphical navigation barsthe kind with clickable images and button states. If you're interested in using regular old text links in your main navigation, see Chapter 14 for the low-down on adding text and Chapter 17 for the ins and outs of link connection.
