Creating Shortcuts

Shortcuts are icons that point to any Windows XP Professional object-applications, files, folders, disk drives, Control Panel items, and more. You can place shortcuts on the Windows Desktop or within any folder. The main advantage of shortcuts is that they enable you to quickly access resources. You can recognize a shortcut by the small arrow in the left corner of the icon.

To create a shortcut, you select an object and then choose Create Shortcut from the File menu. You can also create shortcuts by right-clicking an object and choosing Create Shortcut. After you create a shortcut, you can drag and drop it anywhere you like (for example, the Desktop).

You can also create a shortcut by right-clicking the Desktop and choosing New → Shortcut. This brings up the Create Shortcut dialog box.
