It is true that being visible, enjoying (and leveraging) attention, and voicing your opinion on your industry, company, team, and community are part of life in the senior ranks. If you want to be a participant in your own career rather than an observer of it, if you want to take control rather than waiting to be seen, then you will need to face old fears and take new risks. Some strategies will feel right and some may feel awkward, but you need to start taking action to move ahead.
