master map

The main AutoFS map file, a master map associates directories with mount points, and also lists direct and indirect maps used.

master server

In a NIS domain, the master server is the computer set up as the first NIS server. The master server contains the main copies of the NIS maps.

master system

The Solaris computer that you will replicate and create an archive from, in order to perform Web Start Flash installations.

metadevice

Also known as a volume, a metadevice is a collection of hard disk slices acting as one logical unit and managed by the Solaris Volume Manager (SVM).

mount point

A directory in a file system into which another file system is loaded.

mount

The process of making a file system available by loading it into a mount point.
