About the Technical Reviewers

Mark Gallo is a technical manager with America Online, where he leads a group of engineers who are responsible for the design and deployment of the domestic corporate intranet. His network certifications include Cisco CCNP and Cisco CCDP. He has led several engineering groups responsible for designing and implementing enterprise LANs and international IP networks. He has a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Mark resides in northern Virginia with his wife, Betsy, and son, Paul.

William R. Parkhurst, Ph.D., CCIE No. 2969, is a design consultant with Cisco Systems, specializing in IP core and mobile wireless networks. Prior to his current position, Bill was on the CCIE team and managed the development of the CCIE Service Provider and Voice tracks. Bill holds a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Wichita State University and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Maryland.

Peter J. Welcher, Ph.D., CCIE No. 1773, CCIP, CCSI No. 94014, earned his doctorate in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He started out teaching math at the U.S. Naval Academy. While there, he also bought and maintained UNIX systems, wrote a book on the PERL programming language, and wrote a major computer program in C. This explains his occasional brief lapses into PERL programming. He changed careers in 1993 to teach a wide variety of Cisco courses for Mentor Technologies, formerly Chesapeake Computer Consultants, while also doing network consulting whenever possible. Pete is now doing high-level network consulting with Chesapeake Netcraftsmen, with tasks including network design, security, quality of service (QoS), wireless, and IP telephony, for customers that include several large corporations and government agencies. He has reviewed a number of books for Cisco Press and other publishers, and has authored or managed development of several courses for Cisco and other companies. Pete writes articles for Enterprise Networking magazine. He can also sometimes be found presenting his own seminars at East Coast Cisco offices, on topics ranging from campus network design to WLAN security. The articles and seminars can be found at http://www.netcraftsmen.net/welcher.
