When people congregate in a room and work together, they have a heightened sense of otherness. This dynamic can cause people to react in countless ways, but fundamentally there are three strategies the people in the room can employ: they can work apart; they can work together; or they can engage is a combination of the two. This dance among the three strategies creates tension, generates an energized atmosphere, and ultimately develops into the culture of us. How we dance this dance is important. There is no culture of one. Rather culture is the outcome of the interactions of people and their collective values, beliefs, and behaviors, and how they ultimately morph into something new. These interactions are based on communication and the perception of trust in that communication. Words and actions must be honestly linked.
