Chapter 32. Troubleshooting (Topic 2.214)


This Topic is the largest section forExam 201. This Topic's breadth is expansive and requires that you're fluent in almost every Topic area from both Levels 1 and 2. For this Topic, you are expected to troubleshoot your systems from boot stages and system recovery to system resources and the system's shell configuration. This chapter will not cover any network-related troubleshooting , as that is covered in Topic 2.205, Network Troubleshooting.

This Topic contains six Objectives:


Objective 1: Creating Recovery Disks

Candidates should be able to create boot disks for system entrance and recovery disks for system repair. Weight: 1.


Objective 2: Identifying Boot Stages

Candidates should be able to determine, from bootup text, the four stages of the boot sequence and distinguish between each. Weight: 1.


Objective 3: Troubleshooting Bootloaders

Candidates should be able to determine specific stage failures and corrective techniques. Weight: 1.


Objective 4: General Troubleshooting

Candidates should be able to recognize and identify boot loader- and kernel-specific stages and utilize kernel boot messages to diagnose kernel errors. This Objective includes being able to identify and correct common hardware issues and be able to determine if a problem is in hardware or software. Weight: 1.


Objective 5: Troubleshooting System Resources

Candidates should be able to identify, diagnose, and repair local system issues when using software from the command line. Weight: 1.


Objective 6: Troubleshooting Environment Configurations

Candidates should be able to identify, diagnose, and repair local system issues when using software from the command line. Weight: 1.
