ZENworks for Servers 3 provides an extremely useful tool to help you navigate and manage the SNMP-manageable nodes in the management database. The following sections discuss MIBs, how to start the MIB browser, and how to use it to view the management database. Understanding MIBsAn MIB is a text file that contains specifically formatted data that describes the management information on a particular class of an SNMP-manageable device. Each SNMP-manageable device has a specific standard to which it adheres. The MIB file is simply a definition of that standard. ZENworks for Servers 3 compiles most of the MIBs that you need to manage your network. You can, however, use the MIB Compiler to add or remove files from the MIB pool. You may want to compile an MIB from Cisco, for example, so that you can manage and receive SNMP traps from those types of devices in the ZENworks for Servers console. Follow these steps from the management console to compile the MIBs:
Starting the MIB BrowserThe MIB browser enables you to select objects that you want to display and then queries the node to obtain the data objects. It then periodically pools the node to update the information. After it obtains the data object from the node, it enables you to walk through a tree of data objects in the MIB Tree Browser pane and displays the data about the object in the pane below. Follow these steps from the management console to access the MIB browser:
Viewing Tables of Scalar ObjectsYou can view tables of the scalar objects in the MIB and their dynamically updated values from the MIB browser. This enables you to see how the object data is being updated in the database. Follow these steps from the MIB browser to view a table of scalar objects that you want to monitor:
