Several options are available to an enterprise for both location determination and location acquisition. Option selection largely depends on existing deployment, the cost to upgrade, and the motivations to deploy location. The largest flexibility revolves around deployments that make a clear separation between location determination and location acquisition. The greatest flexibility in the use of location information comes where location information is available to entities other than just the end user. Such systems provide immediate support for legacy or location-incapable end-points. In addition, they allow network-enabled location applications to be created and made operational without the need to create and deploy specific applications to all end-points involved.
