Python runs on literally dozens of other operating systems. If you're running something other than Windows, you'll need to visit the official Python Web site at http://www.python.org, shown in Figure 1.3.

HINT | If Linux is your operating system, you may already have Python on your computer. To check, try running python from the command prompt. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to install Python like everybody else. |
Under Special Topics, click the link of the latest Python release that doesn't say "alpha" next to it. That'll take you to the download section for that release. Follow the links for your particular operating system.
