Script Basics

Scripts can be as simple as a recording of commands, but they're also small computer programs that run within Paint Shop Pro. The scripting language used is Python, and if you're fluent in Python, you can include your own code in your scripts.

You access the script facility either from the F ile > Scr i pt menu or from the Script toolbar, shown in Figure 12.1.

Whether you use the menu or the toolbar, you'll be able to select a script and run it, edit an existing script, or record a new script.

NOTE

F ile > Scr i pt includes one command that's not available from the Script toolbar: Clear O utput Window. Scripts that generate error messages or informational text print to the Script Output window, shown in Figure 12.2. Text remains in the window, even after other scripts write to it, until you clear it.

If the Script Output window covers up other windows or palettes in your workspace, read the text, clear the window if you like, and then close the window.
