You should, of course, try to keep the file sizes of your Web graphics as compact as you can (while maintaining acceptable image quality). If you have a relatively large image that you just must use on your site, however, consider saving your image as an interlaced GIF or as a progressive JPEG.
Interlaced GIFs and progressive JPEGs load in stages. Using such an image won't decrease download timein fact, download time is likely to increasebut many visitors to your site will find that having something to look at makes the wait seem shorter. (Be warned , though, that some folks find the gradual display annoying.)
To save a file as a progressive GIF, click the Options button on the Save As or Save Copy As dialog box, and then select Version 89a and Interlaced . To save a file as an interlaced JPEG, click the Options button on the Save As or Save Copy As dialog box, and then select Progressive Encoding .
