Configuring Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies Group Policy Settings
With the Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies Group Policy extension provided in Windows Server 2003, you can specify a list of preferred networks and their settings to automatically configure wireless LAN settings for wireless clients running Windows XP (SP1 or later) or Windows Server 2003. For each preferred network, you can specify association settings (such as the Service Set Identifier [SSID] and WEP usage) and authentication settings (such as the use of 802.1X authentication and the authentication protocol).
To configure Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies Group Policy settings for EAP-TLS authentication
Open the Active Directory Users And Computers snap-in.
In the console tree, double-click Active Directory Users And Computers, right-click the domain or domain system container that contains your wireless computer accounts, and then click Properties.
On the Group Policy tab, click the appropriate Group Policy object (the default object is Default Domain Policy) and then click Edit.
In the console tree, open Computer Configuration; then Windows Settings; then Security Settings; then Wireless Network (IEEE 802.11) Policies.
On the Action menu, click Create Wireless Network Policy. The Wireless Network Policy Wizard will guide you through the creation of a wireless network policy. After it is created, double click the wireless network policy in the details pane.
Change settings on the General tab as needed.
On the Preferred Networks tab, click Add to add a preferred network.
On the Network Properties tab of the New Preferred Settings Properties dialog box, type the wireless network name (the SSID) and change the WEP settings as needed.
On the IEEE 802.1X tab, change 802.1X settings as needed.
In EAP Type, click Smart Card Or Other Certificate.
Click Settings.
On the Smart Card Or Other Certificate dialog box, configure server validation settings as needed.
Click OK to save changes to EAP properties.
Click OK to save changes to the new preferred network.
Click OK to save changes to the Wireless Network (802.11) policy.
The next time your Windows XP (SP1 and later) and Windows Server 2003 wireless clients update computer configuration Group Policy, their wireless network configuration is automatically configured.
