Chapter 4
RADIUS, IAS, and Active Directory
The authentication infrastructure for wireless connections consists of a set of Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) components and account databases. In a Microsoft Windows environment, you use Internet Authentication Service (IAS) as a RADIUS server or proxy. IAS uses remote access policies and account properties to determine authorization and connection constraints and connection request policies to determine its role as a RADIUS server or proxy. IAS is integrated with the Active Directory directory service and can leverage Active Directory accounts, domains, and groups.
This chapter provides a detailed discussion of RADIUS, an overview of IAS in Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 (complete with examples of all configuration dialog boxes), and a brief discussion of Active Directory users and groups.
