When you are viewing and working with a project, you may want to look at things from a smaller or larger perspective. Project makes it easy for you to do this with its handy Zoom tool. For example, you can zoom in on a project to view everything by day, or you can zoom out to view everything by month.

  1. Select the Write XML-based lessons task and select View The Zoom dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 4-10. Let's zoom in on this task.

  2. Select the Selected task option and click OK.

The selected task appears in the chart. Notice the timescale located directly above the bar chart. It has adjusted itself so that you can see the entire duration of the task on the screen. See how the timescale adjusts itself for the various views in Figure 4-11.

Let's switch back to the previous view.

  3. Select View Custom option. Type 23 in the first box, and then click inside the second box and select Day(s) from the list.

You now return to Week view. You can also zoom in or out of a project by using the Zoom buttons on the Standard toolbar.

  4. Click the Zoom Out button on the Standard toolbar.

Your project switches to Month view. Let's return to the previous view.

Note: Click the Toolbar Options button and select the Zoom Out button from the menu if you don't see the Zoom Out button on the Standard toolbar.

  5. Click the Zoom In button on the Standard toolbar.

Zooming in or out of a project is all about personal preference. Experiment with the different views until you find one that works best for you and your project.
