Cloning Brushes

Our level currently has two brushes. Not too spectacular, but we’re making progress at least. To clone brushes, you need to enter Brush Select mode, by right-clicking and selecting it from the context menu, or using the Mode menu (Mode, Brush), or by hitting the B keyboard shortcut.

We need to left-click on one of the two brushes. It doesn’t matter if you choose Floor or Wall. If you have done everything correctly, the brush you selected should turn a mauve-green color. This indicates that this brush is ready to be modified. Right-click on one of the wireframe views to open the context menu and make sure that you don’t have any of the action modifiers applied (Move, Rotate, Resize, and so on). The second section of the context menu should have no check marks in it.

This indicates that our brush is ready to clone. Hold the Shift key (either one), left-click, and drag the brush toward the opposite wall (or ceiling). You should see a selected brush (the green color) moving around with your mouse. While still holding Shift and left-clicking, move the brush into position.

If you let go of the brush after you’ve cloned it, you will have to go into Move mode to adjust it into position. Otherwise, you might continue to clone the brush again and again, which is not the desired outcome.

Selecting Multiple Brushes

Selecting multiple brushes and entities is easy. You simply hold Ctrl and left-click to your heart’s content. To deselect a brush in a group, simply hold Ctrl and reclick on the brush. It will toggle it from Select to Deselect. If you followed the previous steps for the floor, ceiling, and two walls of our room, you should have a level that looks like Figure 28.8.

We have our four brushes, walls, and ceiling, but the ceiling isn’t showing up in the 3D view.
