About the authors

Ivica Crnkovic, Mälardalen University, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Västerås, Sweden

Ivica Crnkovic is a professor of industrial software engineering at Mälardalen University, where he is the administrative leader of the software engineering laboratory and the scientific leader of industrial software engineering research. His research interests include component-based software engineering, SCM, software development environments and tools, and software engineering in general. Professor Crnkovic is the author of more than 40 refereed articles and papers on software engineering topics. He has coorganized several workshops and conferences related to software engineering (in particular, component-based software engineering) and participated in program committees of SCM symposia and workshops. He also participated in several projects organized by the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries.

From 1985 to 1998, Professor Crnkovic worked at ABB, Sweden, where he was responsible for software development environments and tools. He was a project leader and manager of a group developing SCM systems and other software development environment tools and methods for distributed development and maintenance of real-time systems. From 1980 to 1984, he worked for the Rade Koncar company in Zagreb, Croatia. Professor Crnkovic received an M.Sc. in electrical engineering in 1979, an M.Sc. in theoretical physics in 1984, and a Ph.D. in computer science in 1991, all from the University of Zagreb, Croatia.

He can be reached at ivica.crnkovic@mdh.se or http://www.idt.mdh.se/~icc .

Ulf Asklund, Lund University, Department of Computer Science, Lund, Sweden.

Ulf Asklund is an associate professor of configuration management at Lund University, Sweden. His research interests include SCM and software engineering in general. He is especially interested in the developer view in software engineering, focusing on tool support and IDEs. His research also includes computer-supported cooperative work and PDM, and how these can be combined and integrated with SCM. Dr. Asklund also takes an active interest in undergraduate and graduate education.

Dr. Asklund is the author of more than 10 refereed journal articles and conference papers. He has also coorganized several workshops and a conference for the IEEE, participated in the Program Committee of the IEEE Conferences and Workshops on Engineering of Computer-Based Systems 2002 and 2003, and reviewed several submissions for journals within software engineering.

Ulf Asklund is a regular presenter at national and international conferences regarding SCM and PDM. He has participated in two projects organized by the Association of Swedish Engineering Industries, and is the author and coauthor of the resulting reports. He is an active member of the local Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN) organization.

Dr. Asklund received his M.Sc. in electrical engineering in 1990 and earned his Ph.D. in computer science in 2002. He is now an associate professor with the Department of Computer Science and a senior researcher with the Lund University Center for Applied Software Research (LUCAS).
