Chapter Fourteen. Step 11: Get Savvy About Financial Scams and Fraud

Arthur went into the den after his morning coffee and turned on his computer. Ever since Evelyn died, he has stuck to familiar routines: checking his e-mail after breakfast to see if the grandkids had sent anything, doing a little gardening before the sun got too strong, going for a walk around the block.

This morning there were just two messages: one from his granddaughter Sophie telling him about her school play; the other from his bank telling him he needed to change his online banking password. Why, he wondered, was the bank always making him change his password? He'd talk to Greg, the bank manager, about it next time he went in.

Arthur clicked the link and, on the Web page that opened, entered his account number for verification, his old password, and then his new password, twice. After clicking the Submit button, he opened Sophie's e-mail. There was a photo of her in her costume for the play. He wished Evelyn could see how adorable Sophie looked. He clicked Reply and started typing a message.
